Outline for ielts writing task 2

Topic: Scientists agree that people are damaging their health by eating too much junk food. Some people think that the answer to this problem is to educate people. Others think education will not work. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

BRAINSTORM:

Some reasons why health education can be an effective method:

  • Health education helps build people’s knowledge and positive attitudes towards their health => people are fully aware of the importance of being healthy, they will be motivated to improve and maintain their health.
  • Many people underestimate the destructive effects of junk food => the necessity of educating people about healthy eating habits and balanced diets
  • Education can take place in many forms: lectures, presentations, pictures, statistics, etc. => livelier and more effective

Some reasons why education alone is not enough to tackle the problem:

  • In today’s hectic lifestyle, eating junk food is much faster and more convenient than preparing meals at home.
  • Some people, especially teenagers, tend to identify eating fast food with being modern and fashionable.
  • Despite knowing the damaging effects of snack food, many people are still attracted by its delicious flavor and reasonable price.

Personal viewpoint (suggested):

  • Health education is a feasible solution to this problem only when it involves a collaborative effort among families, schools and the government.

ESSAY:

Nowadays, people’s general health is deteriorating as a result of consuming a great deal of fast food. One proposed solution is to provide citizens with health education, but some people believe that this will not be the case. In this essay, I will discuss some arguments for and against this method as well as express my own view.

Health education proves to be a sensible answer for many reasons. First and foremost, it helps build people’s knowledge and positive attitudes towards their health. Indeed, only when people are fully aware of the importance of being healthy will they be motivated to improve and maintain their health. It is also worth pointing out that many people underestimate the destructive effects of junk food. Without health education, they may never know how harmful it is to eat fast food on a regular basis. In addition, people will be taught about healthy eating habits and balanced diets in many different ways such as lectures, presentations, pictures and statistics, which may make learning more effective.

Education alone, however, is not enough to tackle this complicated problem. The primary reason is that in today’s hectic lifestyle, eating junk food is much faster and more convenient than preparing meals at home. For instance, some people eat snack food regularly not because they like it but rather that they want to save time. In contrast, many people, especially teenagers, tend to identify eating fast food with being modern and fashionable. This explains their avid interest in this kind of food. Last but not least, despite knowing the damaging effects of junk food, a lot of people are still attracted by its delicious flavor and reasonable price.

In conclusion, this is a complex issue with no clear answers. My opinion is therefore that health education is a feasible solution to this problem only when it involves a collaborative effort among families, schools and the government.
